Mammography mobile making cancer screening accessible to women

New mobile units are part of the effort to drive early breast cancer detection in Alberta. Chidima Okoli, the Health Promoting Facilitator with Screen Test, says in July 2025, one of the units was replaced, while the second will be replaced in October 2025.

Okoli says the units travel across 120 rural and Indigenous communities in Alberta to screen and drive early breast cancer detection.

Alberta Cancer Foundation and Primary Care Alberta offer test through the units, which are equipped with state-of-the-art mammography technology, offer greater comfort, accessibility and space, helping to ensure more Albertans can undergo breast cancer screening in their own communities.

About 12 to 15 thousand women use the service every year
