Lethbridge official- joins worldwide FASD awareness effort on September-9

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, or FASD, is a lifelong disability caused by prenatal alcohol exposure. Today, September 9, communities around the world are recognizing FASD Awareness Day to highlight its impacts and the importance of prevention and support, as well as promoting understanding in the community.

This year, Lethbridge is joining that effort with a local declaration. City Council unanimously declared September 9, 2026, FASD Awareness Day in Lethbridge in July.

About one in 25 Albertans are affected by FASD. It affects the brain and body in unique ways, creating challenges with learning, memory, attention, emotional regulation, motor skills and social interaction. It can affect people at school, in the community and even in sports.
