New Raymond High School solves student over-capacity issue

The town of Raymond, south of Lethbridge, opened its doors to a new state-or-the-art high school on Thursday.

The new facility addresses issues of an outdated facility and over-capacity. The new school comes with a band room, woodworking shop, a spacious commercial kitchen, theater, and world-class sports facilities.

Leaders with the Westwind School Division say it was a nine-year journey to get to Thursday’s ribbon cutting ceremony, and the province recognized the community growth that warranted a rare chance for a major rural school development.

The school is taking in over 300 students this year between grades 10 through 12, with the possibility of one day introducing ninth grade students, as it can hold a total of 750 students.
