Original post:

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services were kept busy on Tuesday as they tackled two out of control grass fires just 12 hours apart from each other. It has caused the City of Lethbridge to enforce an indefinite fire ban during the recent windy and dry climate.

The first fire occurred when emergency crews responded to reports of a grass fire near Scenic Drive & 10th avenue S. The city reports that an “unattended spark” nealry caused a major emergency.

Houses along nearby were evacuated before crews were able to quickly control and extinguish the flames. The fire was feet away from reaching a cul-de-sac on the west side of Scenic overlooking the valley.

The second fire began approximately after 12pm near Scenic and 16th ave S, right by the Mountain View Cemetery and a number of apartment complexes. Traffic on Scenic Drive was initially redirected while emergency crews fought to put it out. Reports of damage are not publicly known at this time.

The city has issued an indefinite fire ban in the midst of warm temperatures, strong winds and low humidity. All residents and visitors are asked to not light any open fires and ensure smoking materials are fully extinguished and disposed of safely.

More details should be expected regarding the latest fire.
