Whoop-Up Drive Bridge determined safe for traffic
The city of Lethbridge says despite a major crash last Wednesday involving Whoop-Up Drive Bridge, it is still safe for motorists. On August 6th, a semi-truck driver hauling heavy equipment made a wrong turn into Indian Battle Park and proceeded under the Whoop-Up Bridge Overpass, striking the bridge, damaging four of the bridge’s six steel girders. The Director of Infrastructure Services, Joel Sanchez, says some of Canada’s top bridge experts have looked at the damage and determined the bridge is safe.
The driver of the semi-truck has been charged with failing to ascertain sufficient space for movement. Additional charges are pending.
