Longhorns baseball’s volunteer efforts pays off for athletes

It turns out serving Jumbo Bites at Whoop Up Days proved to be very lucrative for a local baseball organization. Members of the Lethbridge Longhorn’s baseball academy volunteered their services last August and earned back the funds they raised serving the tasty treats to hungry guests at Lethbridge’s largest fair.

The Longhorns are a non-profit that trains high school baseball players to develop athletic, leadership and life skills. The team was presented with $18,500 of proceeds resulting from volunteering long hours to not just sell but also bake the ‘Jumbo Bites’, Bannock coated in cinnamon sugar with a variety of dips available, for attendees at Whoop Up Days.

It’s a partnership running the last few years with funds raised going towards baseball operations, including new equipment and travel expenses.
