Blue recycling bins can now receive more items

Effective Thursday, new provincial regulations allow more items to be accepted for recycling in curbside blue carts, including here in Lethbridge.

Residents can now add glass, stretchy plastics, paper laminates, deodorant sticks, hairspray cans, air-fresheners and all kids of other items in addition to what was already accepted to be diverted away from the landfill. The three self-service 24/7 recycling sites in the city will also no longer need to be sorted in separate containers.

The changes are part of the Extended Producer Responsibility program. The Lethbridge Waste and Recycling centre is also making changes how they process materials that are shipped there.

The City says nothing will change regarding blue bin collection days and routes.
