Lethbridge elementary school designated as International Spanish Academy

An elementary school in West Lethbridge has been designated as an International Spanish Academy; the first of its kind in southern Alberta.

The West Coulee Station Elementary School offers bilingual education between English and Spanish, with the support from Spain’s Ministry of Education. The designation was celebrated at the Spanish Embassy in Calgary last week, which was attended by Spain’s Deputy Minister of Education and several other delegates.

The school’s principal says the ability for students to learn bilingually enhances their learning capabilities pathways for the future.

For 28 teachers at West Coulee, it’s their 10^th year of all being part of the Spanish bilingual program with the Lethbridge School Division.
