Highway 3 twinning between Taber and Burdett nearly complete

Twinning on Highway 3 is nearing completion between Taber and Burdett, and will be opening in phases for all traffic.

Following the installation of signage, pavement markings and other final additions, Phase 2 will begin on Saturday where eastbound traffic from Taber will now shift to the newly completed lanes, with westbound remaining on its current alignment.

The opening will be carried out in four phases:

Phase 1: Pre-Opening Activities

Crews will complete final pavement markings, install remaining permanent signage, finish roadway lighting, and prepare the highway for traffic. Temporary detours will remain in place during this stage.

Phase 2: Taber to Grassy Lake Traffic Transition

Eastbound traffic between Taber and the Grassy Lake Detour will be shifted onto the newly constructed eastbound lanes. Westbound traffic will remain on its current alignment. Drivers should watch for updated traffic control measures and stop-sign locations.

Phase 3: Grassy Lake to Burdett Traffic Transition

The Grassy Lake Detour will be removed, and traffic will be moved to its permanent configuration. Once complete, motorists travelling between Grassy Lake and Burdett will use the new Highway 3 alignment that bypasses Grassy Lake.

Phase 4: Post-Opening Activities

Following the highway opening, crews will remove temporary detour infrastructure and pavement markings while completing final cleanup work. Temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits may remain in place where work is ongoing.
