University of Lethbridge to introduce Bachelor of Engineering program

Demand for engineers is growing throughout southern Alberta, and the University of Lethbridge will be introducing a new Bachelor program to train locally based engineers.

Applications are open for the Fall 2027 term, where students will be given a multidisciplinary approach to engineering education, combining core principles from agri-food, chemical, mechanical, electrical, civil and software engineering.

Currently, the Universities of Calgary and Alberta are the only institutions in the province that provide the four-year program.

Reported job data from 2020 to 2025 indicates that an average of 3,500 engineering positions were posted each year, while on average, less than 1,700 new engineering graduates came out of UofA and UofC combined. In addition, 28.5% of unique job postings for engineering positions were from outside the major urban areas of Edmonton and Calgary.

About 80 students will be accepted into the Integrated Engineering program, and up to 120-140 students will be in the first-year transfer program.
