Coaldale to host play on World War II veteran

A special theatrical performance is coming to Coaldale called Jake’s Gift. The play has been running since 2007 in over 250 communities across Canada. It focuses on a World War II veteran and his struggles after the war. Video Journalist Micah Quinn has the story.

Julia Mackey performs each character in Jake’s Gift all by herself.

She traveled to Normandy, France back in 2004 for the 60th anniversary of D-Day and was able to interview World War II veterans about their past experiences during the war. That trip would eventually become the inspiration for the play.

Local historian Glenn Miller and Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn were instrumental in bringing Mackey back to southern Alberta.

Jake’s Gift will be performed at the Coaldale Civic Square Atrium on October 28th at 2pm.
