Lethbridge Legion reveals dedication for Battle of Hong Kong

The Lethbridge Legion is providing a chance for members and residents to learn and understand the events of the Battle of Hong Kong, where Canadians fought but ultimately surrendered during an escalation point in the Second World War.

The battle was fought in December of 1941, where Japanese forces overwhelmed Canadian and allied forces at the then British colony before surrendering. About 290 Canadians died in the fighting, and prisoners of war faced malnutrition and disease.

The Legion unveiled a permanent banner addition with the help of Kathie Carlson, a member of the Legion and daughter of a veteran who fought in this very battle. She said she’s committed to sharing the story about the first time Canadians saw combat in the war, and how many have still not learned about it.
