Alberta Summer Games cancelled

Following a consultation with Alberta Health officials, the city of Lethbridge and the province, the Lethbridge Alberta Games Society has decided to cancel the 2021 Alberta Summer Games due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The games which were originally supposed to run in July of 2020 were postponed due to the pandemic. Officials say the decision to pull the plug was based on the health and safety of the participants, spectators, volunteers and residents of Lethbridge.

“Thousands of kids at an event…with our event we have to accommodate the kids, feed the kids, transport the kids. That was becoming more and more challenging,” says Alberta Summer Games Manager, Steve Dudas. “It came down to…we were concerned about being a super spreader”.

The Lethbridge Summer Games Society voted against pushing the event to 2022.
