Afghan veterans reflect on 9/11, ask for Cenotaph memorial addition

Veterans who fought in Afghanistan following the 9/11 attacks are looking back at 25 years and are looking at a new way to commemorate their fallen comrades in Lethbridge.

Members with the Lethbridge Legion presented a proposal to City Council’s “Community Issues Committee”, to modify the nearby Cenotaph memorial to include Afghanistan veterans. They say the new addition would provide closure to veterans and their families.

The Community Issues Committee unanimously voted to pass it forward to City Council for approval.

158 Canadian Armed Forces members lost their lives in service while participating in our country’s military efforts in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2014.
