Two youth charged with stealing vehicle, fleeing police

Two youth in Medicine Hat have been charged by police for stealing a vehicle and attempting to flee police.

Medicine Hat Police received a driving complaint on Wednesday, September 9th after 6pm near St. Patrick’s School. Officers quickly determined that the vehicle was stolen earlier that day and had fled police after an attempted traffic stop. Police located the vehicle on Stratton Way SE and once again tried to stop it, but the driver fled once again.

While police did not pursue in the interest of public safety, the vehicle later collided with a parked vehicle, and the occupants fled the scene. The two suspects were tracked down using a service dog and a drone, and were arrested without incident.

The two boys, who cannot be identified, are facing numerous charges.

Youth #1 is charged with:

• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• Flight from a Peace Officer
• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Several offences under the Traffic Safety Act

The youth was released from custody on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Youth Justice Court on October 29, 2026.

Youth #2 is charged with:

• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• Failure to Comply with a Youth Probation Order

The youth was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Youth Justice Court on September 14, 2026.
