Blood donations rise after fatal CFB Wainwright fire
Canadians are stepping up to donate blood following a fatal fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright over the weekend. The fire broke out Saturday during a live-fire military training exercise, when strong winds caused a nearby grass fire to spread into the training area. Four Canadian Armed Forces members were killed and 39 were injured, including 19 who were critically hurt. In Lethbridge and across Alberta, residents are also showing their support for Canadian Armed Forces members by donating blood and plasma. Donations reportedly increased over the weekend.
Those who want to donate blood or plasma can book an appointment with Canadian Blood Services in Lethbridge. The clinic has plenty of availability Monday to Friday between 1 and 4 p.m.
