LFES extinguishes apartment fire, leaves one injured

A fire was contained at a downtown Lethbridge apartment complex on Sunday afternoon.

Nineteen members with Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services from four stations responded shortly after 4:30pm to a three-storey building on the 200 block of 2nd Avenue south. They found smoke and flames in a basement unit of the complex.

Firefighters were able to contain and put out the blaze in the room where it originated and limit overall damage. One person, however, was injured at the scene and was treated by paramedics before being further assessed at the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
