Lethbridge man identified as Montreal shooting suspect
The alleged shooter in Montreal on Monday has been identified as 25-year-old Seth Scott Hatfield, from Lethbridge. His name was released by the Quebec coroner on Tuesday.
The coroner has also identified the two other people killed — 34-year-old Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, a Montreal police officer, and 68-year-old Michel Mizrahi, a bystander caught in the crossfire.
Montreal police Chief Fady Dagher says officers were met with gunfire after responding to a 911 call about a person with a gun at a Hilton hotel in the Côte-des-Neiges district on Monday morning.
Quebec’s police watchdog is investigating the shooting, while Quebec provincial police have launched a parallel criminal probe.
A 104-page manifesto was also discovered under Hatfield’s name, in which he called for adult entertainment companies, CEO’s and billionaires, corporations suggested to be affiliated with Zionism to be “liquidated.” He also has expressed many opinions described as “anti-feminist” and criticisms over the characterature of women.
Hatfield was also a student at the University of Lethbridge, he even appears on the Dean’s Honour’s list for Winter 2026, where he studied Philosophy. The University in a statement condemned his actions and viewpoints.
The Lethbridge Police Service conducted a search at a westside townhouse on Lemoyne Crescent West on Tuesday. Some residents were evacuated due to the possible presence of weapons.

LPS has confirmed that they are assisting with authorities in Quebec with the investigation directly in connection with the shooting in Montreal. They have not confirmed that the house search is directly connected to the shooting or the suspect and will not comment any further.
