Lethbridge Police crack down on illegal driving behavior, arrests one

Lethbridge Police were on the streets this past weekend as part of a summer traffic crackdown.

LPS issued 67 tickets and removed one impaired driver from the streets. They also also issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) warning, apprehended one suspended driver and another operating a vehicle without insurance. That resulted in the vehicle being towed.

LPS say during this project, the Traffic Response Unit deliberately targets drivers responsible for speeding, stunting, racing, excessive noise, equipment violations and other aggressive and illegal driving. LPS reminds drivers officers are taking a zero-tolerance approach.

Repeat offenders who fail to address previously identified equipment violations may be subject to licence plate and registration seizure. Vehicles may also be towed, and owners required to complete mandatory repairs under Section 66 of the Traffic Safety Act before the vehicle is permitted back on the road.
