Whoop Up Drive speed permanently lowered to 70km/h
Commuters in Lethbridge will have to be mindful when crossing the river to the west side and back; from here on out, the City of Lethbridge has made a permanent speed change on Whoop Up Drive.
The new limit is lowered from 90 kilometres an hour to 70 kilometres an hour effective immediately. The city says 90 kilometres no longer meets modern safety standards, and the decision will limit the risk of serious collisions.
Between 2020 and 2024, there were 128 collisions between the stretch of Scenic Drive South and University Drive West, resulting in 36 injuries.
