Fire ban lifted in Lethbridge, County downgrades ban

The city of Lethbridge has lifted its fire ban in the river valley. The city says recent precipitation and cooler temperatures have reduced the fire risk, so the change is effective immediately. Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services will continue to monitor weather and wind conditions.

Residents and visitors are reminded to continue to use caution when having any outdoor fire. Use approved fire pits, make sure fires are small and that they’re supervised at all times. Also make sure the fire is completely out before leaving.

Other advice the city gives include:

  • Use clean, dry wood only
  • Keep fires small and supervised at all times
  • Use approved fire pits only
  • Keep water or another way to extinguish the fire nearby
  • Make sure the fire is completely out before leaving
  • Do not have a fire when winds are gusting at or above 30 km/h

Residents and visitors are reminded that conditions can change quickly, and use caution when having a fire.

Lethbridge County has also downgraded its fire ban to a fire restriction. Controlled fires requiring a permit are still prohibited as are fireworks.
