City disappointed in not receiving federal grant
Lethbridge city officials say their application to the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund program was declined. They say they were disappointed by the news that Lethbridge will not be eligible for 6.25-million dollars which would have helped address some of the housing concerns in our community. Officials say the Housing Accelerator Fund is a competitive grant. Out of 544 applications received just 179 received funding. The city’s general manager of Community Social Development, Andrew Malcolm, explains what reasoning the CMHC gave as to why Lethbridge did not receive the grant. In March of last year CMHC announced the creation of the 4-billion dollar Housing Accelerator Fund Program designed specifically for municipalities.
