Lethbridge Polytechnic develops smarter irrigation tool

Do you know what evapotranspiration is? It’s a key part of the water cycle, combining both evaporation with the transpiration of water vapour from plant leaves. Now, researchers at Lethbridge Polytechnic have developed a new tool that uses evapotranspiration data to help producers better understand their crops’ water needs and make more informed irrigation decisions. Dr. Michael Kehoe, a research scientist with the Mueller Irrigation Research Group, explains how this method can be used, how the new tool, called Irrimap, works.

The project was funded by Agriculture and Agri-food Canada.
