Registered Nurses in our province are not happy that the Alberta government is planning on utilizing more Licensed Practical Nurses while allegedly decreasing RN’s positions. Meanwhile, there is a group called LPNs For Change who say they too are upset for not being recognized for the current work they are doing and want to be reclassified under Direct Nursing. They say on one hand the government has decided that they are not really nurses but on the other hand want to replace RNs with LPNs. An appeal has been filed with Alberta Labour Relations.
