World Alzheimer’s Day

Thursday marked World Alzheimer’s Day. The event was first launched in 1994 by Alzheimer’s Disease International.

According to staff with St. Michael’s Health Centre here in Lethbridge, an estimated 46,000 Albertans live with dementia.

Each week the centre provides an Adult Day Program which helps Lethbridge seniors with memory conditions maintain independence and a connection to their community.

Officials say through music, art and other recreational activities, program participants socialize in a safe environment while their caregivers receive several hours of respite.
