The lack of childcare in Alberta continues to be a concern
The lack of childcare spaces in Alberta continues to be a concern for many. Susan Cake, chair with Child Care Now Alberta, says the province doesn’t have adequate space for children who need daycare. She also says that as of 2021, when the federal-provincial childcare agreement was signed to reduce childcare fees by more than 50%, Alberta only had licensed spaces for 26% of kids in the province. According to the Alberta Government, the province is advancing the development of the Space Creation Grant that will help to build more than 68–thousand new licensed spaces by 2026. That includes 42,500 non-profit spaces and 26-thousand private spaces (for profit).
