Reports of deceased mallards ducks around Henderson Lake

Dead ducks have been popping up around Henderson Lake. Many of the deceased waterfowl have been mallards, and city staff say the deaths are more frequent in the winter time. Coreen Putman with the Helen Schuler Nature Centre says the deaths are often caused by a change in the ice and the birds getting trapped under the lake. When the deceased birds are found, they are bagged and then normally taken to the landfill. The City says some of the birds are being sent to Calgary for testing to see if they were malnourished. City officials are also asking residents to not feed the birds.
