LPS welcomes two K9 graduates, retires veteran dog

The Lethbridge Police Service has introduced some new four-legged recruits.

Two young German Shepherds, Bobbie and his handler, Cst. Joel Odorski; and Bak and his handler Cst. Josh Smith, have graduated from their 20-week training program to become the latest members of the K9 unit. They’ll assist in search efforts during high-risk events. Both are just two years old, and each come from Europe.

Meanwhile, six-year-old Aron retired from the force after five years – unfortunately due to cancer. During his five-year career, PSD Aron responded to 421 calls, assisted in 213 arrests and caught up to 33 people who attempted to run. He will now live at home with his owner, Cst. Steve Zwartbol.

Equipped with their new badges, the two new dogs and their constable owners are ready to begin work right away.
