LPS conducting Critical Incident training by Mayor Magrath Drive
If you’re driving on Mayor Magrath Drive this week and you come across a heavy police presence, Lethbridge Police say don’t be alarmed.
LPS and the RCMP are carrying out Critical Incident Training scenarios over the course of three days at a defunct hotel at the corner of Mayor Magrath and 7th Avenue south. There will be a large presence of police vehicles and activity between the hours of 7am and 4pm each day until Thursday, April 23rd, and authorities are reassuring there is no risk to the public.
Nathan Shenton with LPS’s critical incident team tells BCN that training at the former Superlodge, now slated for demolition, provides the team a chance to train at a real physical location with obstacles rather than just simulations. The critical incident team typically responds to 14 to 16 major incidents per year.
