Former LPS Superintendent enjoys 100th birthday
A former Superintendent with the Lethbridge Police Service was honoured on Thursday. The LPS Veterans Association celebrated the 100th birthday of Glen Michelson. He began his policing career with the RCMP in 1947 and served until 1950. He then joined the Lethbridge Police Force in 1950, rising through the ranks, and retired as Superintendent in 1984. He was one of the first members of the LPS Forensic Identification Unit and was the first commander of the Special Weapons, Tactics and Sniper Team back in 1974. Michelson says one thing he really enjoyed during his time with the RCMP was being able to ride a horse. Something that was right up his alley for a kid who grew up on the farm.
