Coaldale lowers default unposted speed limit to 40 km/h

A new default speed limit is coming to Coaldale. The speed limit on roads without posted signs will be reduced from 50 to 40 kilometres per hour. The change will only apply to unposted roads, while Highway 3, Highway 845, and 30 km/h playground zones will remain unchanged.

Dustin Yanke, Director of Infrastructure for the Town of Coaldale, says the decision is based on traffic data and is aimed at improving road safety. The official explains what led to the change and what it means for drivers.

The change will take effect on September 1st, 2026.
