Historic Lethbridge school due for replacement has historians concerned

A school in north Lethbridge that’s over a hundred-years old is expected to be replaced in the next few years, but it has left local historians concerned.

The Galbraith Elementary School, completed in 1912, was approved by the province for replacement by request of the Lethbridge School Division in January of this year.

The building was deemed to have significant challenges in its construction elements that ruled out modernization, with age playing a big factor. While the design phase is still being finalized with the intention of maintaining the original front facade, members of the Lethbridge Historical Society are advocating more to be done to preserve its historic roots.

The Lethbridge School Division is hopeful for a potential completion date for the project in 2030.
