Alberta RCMP launching body-worn cameras field test

RCMP officers in Alberta are going to be field testing body-worn cameras. Officials say this is part of ongoing efforts to be more transparent and accountable to the communities they serve. Starting this month front line members in Grande Prairie, St. Paul and Parkland County will all be wearing the body-worn cameras. Officials say the field test will run 8 to 10 weeks. Corporal Troy Savinkoff, of the Alberta RCMP, explains the main reasoning behind getting these cameras.  Corporal Savinkoff says the body-worn camera field test is not only taking place here in Alberta but also at RCMP detachments in Nova Scotia and Nunavut. He says once the field test is complete the RCMP may be rolling out 10-thousand cameras to other detachments across the country, in the next 12 to 18 months, costing around 3-thousand dollars each or 30-million dollars.
