Cashless midway at Whoop-Up Days

More than 90 floats are expected to be on display at Tuesday’s Whoop Up Days parade.  Leading the parade as Marshal is southern Alberta’s own Duane Kesler. He is a third-generation rodeo stock contractor who has raised some of the greatest bucking stock in Canadian rodeo history from his ranch near Raymond. This year’s theme is Grow Up Western, which echoes the 2024 Whoop Up Days theme song, which is written and performed by local artist Cody Hall. According to Paul Kingsmith with the Lethbridge and District Exhibition, the theme, theme song, and parade marshal choices was a serendipitous moment for the planning team.

Many planning to attend the festivities are upset that the midway operator, West Coast Amusements, is going cashless this year. Kingsmith addressed those concerns at Monday morning’s press conference and clarified that cash is still king.

Last year’s Whoop Up Days attendance broke a modern-day record at over 77,000. This was partly due to the free admission sponsored by Gas King. Fewer crowds are anticipated this year because of the paid admission.
