Lethbridge Hurricanes name Barclay Parneta as General Manager

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have announced their new General Manager after Peter Anholt stepped down in January of last season.

At a Wednesday morning press conference, the Canes introduced Barclay Parneta, who has served as interim GM since last January. He says it was an easy decision to sign in Lethbridge and he credits the organization as one of the best in the WHL.

Parneta has previously worked 18 seasons with the Tri-City Americans, working as a Development Coach, Scout, Head Coach and Assistant general Manager over the course of two stints. In 2018, he became GM for the Vancouver Giants serving seven years in that role before ultimately joining the Canes as a senior advisor in September of 2025.

The Hurricanes are coming off a rebuilding year last season where they finished dead-last with 38 points. Parneta believes the team is in good shape this offseason thanks to their new signings and trades.

“I think you’re gonna see some dramatic improvements, probably very quickly,” Parneta said to media. “I’m hoping the fans are able to sort of build off that and the energy keeps coming and coming, and people get excited.”

The Hurricanes will begin their training camp on August 27th with their 4-game preseason beginning on September 1st. The 2026/27 season, and 40th season for the Canes, opens up on September 18^th at home against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
