Town of Coaldale recruiting firefighters for the month of March

Until the end of March, the Town of Coaldale is recruiting new volunteer and paid-on-call firefighters. To apply you must live in the town, be 18 or older, and must have an interest in giving back to the community. Fire Chief Kevin McKeown says new firefighters will have certain requirements they must commit to.

“We have regular training nights every Monday or Wednesday, so it is a requirement that you attend at least one of those nights once a week. So that can be about two and half hours per week, pretty much guaranteed for training. As a new recruit coming on you do have a bit of a full plate so that first year is pretty heavy with training requirements but kind of once you get passed that first year it definitely starts to slow down a little bit,” said Kevin McKeown, Fire Chief for the Town of Coaldale.

Anybody who is interested in applying to become a firefighter can drop by the fire hall in person or fill out an application on the town’s website.
