Taber crowned Alberta’s nominee for Kraft Hockeyville

The Town of Taber says it is grateful for being named Alberta’s nominee for Kraft Hockeyville guaranteeing them $50,000 towards arena upgrades. There are 13 nominees representing each province and territory vying for the title.

Two Kraft Hockeyville finalists will be chosen on March 21st, with voting determining a winner in April, who will receive $250,000 for their arena and host an NHL exhibition game. The runner-up will get $100,000.

The town submitted their bid following an explosion that caused substantial damage to the town’s dual rinks on December 17, 2025. A fuel component in a Zamboni failed, leaking propane which was ignited by an electric heater causing an explosion. There were no injuries, but recent estimates put repair costs at $11 million.

Taber CAO, Derrin Thibault, says community members have rallied hard to support the town’s bid.
