Lethbridge honours first voice in emergencies: 9-1-1 communicators

How many of us have had to call an emergency line and rely on the help and guidance of the person on the other end? This week, Canada is marking National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and here in the city, Lethbridge’s 9-1-1 professionals are also being recognized. Often described as the “first responder you never see,” these behind-the-scenes heroes are the ones who answer your call for help in critical moments. From April 12 to 18, the community is acknowledging the vital role these communicators play in keeping residents safe. Joel McDonald, Deputy Chief of the Public Safety Communications Centre, says more.

The 165,000 calls processed by the PSCC are from Lethbridge and 23 surrounding communities in southwestern Alberta.
