Kainai Board of Education faces criticism over bus servicing

The school year may have begun across the province, but a number of students from the Blood Tribe reportedly had trouble finding their way back due to recent busing changes in the region.

The Blood Tribe recently shifted their transportation services to the Kainai Board of Education after the decades-long Student Transportation Services Delegation Agreement was promptly terminated earlier this year. However, reports on social media have been flooded by complaints that the Board of Education are lacking buses, drivers and routes.

The Blood Reserve School Bus Co-op has launched legal action against the Blood Tribe for the termination of the busing agreement. They claim the termination puts the continued transportation of more than 1,200 students at risk.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Kainai Board of Education acknowledged that a “small number of students were not assigned bus routes” and parents had trouble reaching out to them. The KBE now claims that as of today, all planned routes are operating and all students registered with them have routes and drivers assigned.
