Lethbridge Police searching for man wanted in crime spree

Lethbridge Police are asking for help in identifying and locating a suspect wanted in connection with a crime spree this week.

On Wednesday, August 26 at 8:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a carjacking in the parking lot of a business along the 500 block of 8 Street South. A security officer reported an unknown male ordered him out of his vehicle, then attempted to physically remove him. The subject was unsuccessful and fled the scene.

A short time later an LPS officer was advised that a man matching the description of the suspect had earlier entered a convenience store along the 700 block of 6 Avenue South at around 9 p.m. The suspect, with his face partially covered and his hand in his pocket appearing to brandish a weapon, demanded cash. When none was handed over he fled the scene.

Police believe that same person tried to enter the back yard of a home along the 600 block of 6 Street South an hour later. However, the homeowner confronted him and ran him off.

Then at around 10:42 p.m., police believe the suspect was also involved in an attempted assault along Whoop Up Drive and another attempted carjacking at the university. A security officer told police he was sitting in his vehicle when the unknown male slapped the driver’s side window and ordered him out. When the victim did not exit, the subject proceeded to the passenger side then left on foot. Throughout the interaction the subject had his hand in the back of his waistband, and the victim believed he may have been concealing a weapon. In this instance and at the convenience store earlier, no weapon was observed.
