Lethbridge County employee calling out Mayor over response to post
An employee at Lethbridge County is speaking out after Mayor Hyggen reportedly sent a formal complaint to his employer over a Facebook comment that criticized Lethbridge City Council.
Trevor Lewington, the Director of Growth and Engagement at the County made the comment on another user’s Facebook post using the term “spineless” to describe how Lethbridge council handled discussions around the provincial referendum. According to Lewington, Mayor Blaine Hyggen sent a formal letter to the County proposing disciplinary action against Lewington and to take steps to prevent similar comments again.
Lewington says ironically this came right before the Mayor made a public call for unity following the results of the referendum.
In a statement from Mayor Hyggen to BCN, he says, “The City values its relationships with Lethbridge County and recognizes the importance of respectful and professional collaboration. My concerns are not with any individual or their opinions but rather with preserving a positive, constructive partnership for the benefit of our entire region.”
