Procurement process for EMS deal underway, service remains

Lethbridge Mayor Blaine Hyggen addressed the media Monday on the status of the integrated Fire & EMS services.

Back in May, the City rejected Emergency Heath Services’ demands of taking on raised benchmark costs for a new contract, opting to instead initiate a procurement process. The mayor says the process is now underway after EHS issued its Request for Ground Emergency Health Services.

The integrated service contract ended on September 30th, but service in the city continues to carry on as normal. The Mayor says they now have a deadline of January 7th to finalize a deal.

Hyggen has continually expressed his goal is to ensure service is maintained as it is without having any additional costs that impact taxpayers. Lethbridge is one of seven municipalities dealing with EMS contract changes.
