New Cenotaph inscription pays homage to Afghanistan veterans
With one week from Remembrance Day, the City of Lethbridge paid homage to service members who fought in Afghanistan for 13 years.
A ceremony for a new Cenotaph Inscription was held where it’s located near City Hall by the Royal Canadian Legion’s General Stewart Branch. The new inscription pays tribute to Canadian veterans that served in the central Asian country between 2001 and 2014, including the 165 Canadians that didn’t make it home.
The Cenotaph and the new memorial are funded by citizens via donations to the Legion, including the Poppy and Remembrance Day Committees.

The city is hosting two Remembrance Day ceremonies this year. The first is at the cenotaph at 10:45 a.m., with the second an hour later at the Trade and Convention Centre. (11:45 a.m.)
