Lawyer from JCCF explains lawsuit against U of L

Frances Widdowson, the speaker who was invited to talk on how Woke-ism Threatens Academic Freedom at the University of Lethbridge is now suing the university for cancelling her talk in February of this year. Widdowson was invited by Dr. Paul Viminitz a U of L philosphy professor to discuss how woke ideology is hostile to free speech. Some of the reasons the university says it cancelled her speech was for the safety of the diverse community and harm associated with the talk. Widdowson was a tenured professor at Mount Royal University until she was fired in 2021. Now despite the event being cancelled Widdowson showed up anyway and tried speaking at the U of L Atrium. She was shouted down by a large group of protesters. She then moved to an adjent area and continued to lecture but again was drowned out by protesters. The talk was eventually moved to an online forum later that evening. The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms is handling this case. The president of the JCCF, John Carpay, has more on the lawsuit in this exclusive interview with BCN.
