Emancipation Day
August 1st is Emancipation Day. It marks the abolishment of slavery across the British Empire back in 1834. In 2021, the House of Commons voted unanimously to designate August 1st as Emancipation Day. Ngozi Paul is a Toronto based actress who is starring in a film about the history of slavery in North America. She tells BCN’s Angela Stewart that even though the day is recognized, more needs to be done.
