Cops, pops, and pizza for Special Olympics
This Friday the Lethbridge Hurricanes will be hosting their annual toque and Teddy Bear Toss at Enmax Centre when they take on the Saskatoon Blades. But before you head to the arena, Lethbridge Police Service invites you to stop in for a slice at the south side Boston Pizza and purchase a K-9 stuffed animal to take with you to throw on the ice.
For the sixth year in a row Lethbridge Police Service along with other southern Alberta Law enforcement agencies will trade in their holsters for serving trays while hosting the Cops, Pops, and Pizza fundraiser for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Constable Braylon Hyggen has been involved in the torch run for many years as well as coaching a special olympics team.
“We’ll have Special Olympic athletes as well there serving food, helping fill up drinks, just going around telling people why special olympics is special to them,” says Braylon. “Some will be wearing their medals from previous events and it’s just a great fundraiser to get out in the community and be a part of doing something great with the athletes.”
The event takes place between 1-4 p.m. Friday, December 1, at the Boston Pizza located at 2041 Mayor Magrath Drive south.
If you do plan to stop in before the game that night, the Canes take the ice at 7 p.m. for the Canadian Tire Teddy and Toque Toss. The stuffies will be donated to a number of local charities and outlets, including the Chinook Regional Hospital paediatrics ward.
