Canada’s 6-0 win vs Qatar celebrated in Lethbridge
History was made in Canadian sports on Thursday at the FIFA World Cup. Canada dominated in a group stage match over Qatar with a 6-0 victory at BC Place in Vancouver.
The win came at a cost though, as Canada lost midfielder Ismaël Koné to a broken leg in the 50th minute of the match. After he was loaded onto a stretcher, Kone received a long embrace from devastated coach Jesse Marsch. Koné also shook hands with some of the Qatari opponents.
But despite the major roster loss for Canada, the excitement among fans nationwide remains palpable. Fans in Lethbridge were able to gather to watch Canada’s first ever World Cup win at the Lethbridge Soccer Association.
Canada now controls its destiny to win their group and move on to the Round of 32. They will need a win or a draw against Switzerland in their final group stage match on June 24th in Vancouver.
