Canada defeats France in weekend FIBA 3×3 Women’s Basketball Series
Canada has landed its second straight title at the FIBA 3X3 Women’s Basketball Series Final in Mongolia this past weekend. An assistant coach with the Women’s University of Lethbridge Pronghorns team says she couldn’t be happier. Paige Crozen says they defeated France 16-15 in the championship match and are looking ahead to the qualifiers for the Paris summer games.
“3X3 is a points based system. So the more you play and the better you do at each stop, the more points that you get. We’re currently the number one ranked team in the world. However, because countries like France and China are able to play in more stops and tournaments, they are ranked ahead of us federation wise. So we’re the fifth ranked federation in the world, and so we will be going to an Olympic qualifier in May, and then we’ll have a second opportunity in June.”
The Paris Summer Olympics will take place from July 26th to August 11th next year.
