Be cautious with Jasper donations warns BBB
In the aftermath of a tragedy like the fire in Jasper this week, people naturally want to do everything they can to help.
However, these kinds of events can provide fertile ground for fraudsters looking to take advantage of others.
As many Albertans seek to help those in need, the Better Business Bureau is warning people to be careful with their donations. Marketplace Programs Coordinator at the Better Business Bureau Odeta Doroftei says it is important pause and do a bit of research before donating.
Doroftei says the Better Business Bureau have not yet received information about any scams associated with the Jasper wildfire.
However, if you encounter a suspicious situation, she encourages you to report it to the B-B-B. They will investigate it, and if it is a scam, they will publish it to warn others.
