Impaired driver charged in pedestrian collision with senior

A 56-year-old man is facing charges in connection with a pedestrian collision that occurred Monday on the north side.

Just before 4pm, Lethbridge Police responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of 13 Street and 3 Avenue North, where they were forced to close off part of 13th street for most of the afternoon. A 78-year-old man was reportedly struck by a Dodge Ram truck when it attempted to make a right turn onto 13th street.

The elderly victim suffered significant, life-threatening head injuries and was eventually transferred to hospital in Calgary where he remains in critical condition. Police say the driver displayed signs of impairment and was subsequently charged following an initial investigation.

Joseph Cameron Brewster of Lethbridge is charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving with a blood alcohol level of more than .08. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court April 29. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
